FAQs

  • Every mural is different!

I price my murals by the sq ft. That sq ft price varies based on some factors, so the range can be anywhere from $15 per sq ft up to $50 per sq ft. The following help me to determine a fair price:

The leading factor is the complexity or simplicity in the desired design. If you have no design, there will be a design fee upfront to design your mural. The more detailed, three-dimensional rendered murals cost more than a graphic style, two-dimensional rendered mural. Or the design that incorporates a wide variety of different colors will cost more than a black and white or monochromatic mural.

The next pricing factor depends on the smoothness or roughness of the substrate. For example, a brick wall will cost more per sq ft than a smooth texture because it is much more difficult and time consuming to paint on, particularly with a detailed design.

The issue of accessibility is another factor. If the area to pe painted is not easily accessed (ie above a water feature, landscaping, on a staircase or ceiling, construction impediments to work around etc) it factors into the price.

If the mural requires large scaffolding set up or a lift rental of any kind, this will also be a cost to the client.

  • Contact me through the form below the FAQ and tell me the details of your project, I will contact you directly to discuss it further with you and answer any more questions you may have. This initial consultation is free of charge. If, after our conversation, you’d like to proceed, I will meet with you at the site of the mural to take photographs, measurements and notes to get a full understanding of the environment that the work is going in.

Next, I will write up a proposal and an estimate based on all the information. If agreed to, I would then require 10% of the total cost up front to begin the design work. Once a design is agreed upon, I do a full color painted mock up to scale, so that you can see what your mural will look like finished. A contract can be drawn up, and once signed, I’ll require 1/2 of the total balance to purchase supplies and begin. The remaining balance will be due upon completion. If you supply the design, there will not be a the 10% design fee up front, it will simply be 1/2 the total cost to begin and the remaining balance due upon completion.

  • I use high quality exterior grade latex paints on all exterior murals and high quality interior grade latex paints on all interior murals. For Exteriors, I seal the mural with a high grade UV protectant clearcoat to help protect the colors from fading with the sun and other weather elements while creating a protective barrier on the surface from scuffs, scrapes, dirt and finger prints.

If your interior mural is in a high traffic area and/or in direct sunlight from a window, I will also seal the mural with a high grade interior latex clear coat with UV protectant.

Sherwin Williams, Modern Masters Theme Paint, Mann Brothers, and Florida Paints, are some of the paints that I like to use and are some of the preferred paints used by Disney and Universal Studios as well.

If there is a concern regarding the mural being vandalized with graffiti, there are several anti graffiti coatings on the market that can be applied once the mural is complete. These coatings are formulated to repel spray paint and make easy work of clean up without damaging the mural.

  • In order to guarantee the adhesion of your newly painted exterior mural, it is recommended that exterior walls be pressure washed, patched/repaired if needed and then painted with an exterior primer before the start date of your mural. This can be done by you or a painting contractor of your choice or I can sub contract it out for you for an additional fee.

To prepare for interior murals, the wall(s) must be cleared of all wall hangings, wiped clean, with all holes patched and all light switch and outlet covers removed. All furniture and other obstacles must be completely removed from the room, if said room is small. If it is in a larger space, everything must be moved away from the vicinity of where the mural is going.

If It is an exterior mural above grass or dirt where a scissor lift must drive, the terrain needs to be leveled and covered with plywood so that the lift will be able drive over it and operate in a safe manner.

Tell me about your project.

Please give me as much information about your project as you can. Be sure to include the location, if it s interior or exterior, the dimensions, what the substrate is that the mural will be painted on, your schedule or desired deadline, if it is a new construction site, and if you already have a design or if you need me to design it. Other information such as if it is above landscaping or a water feature, or on a staircase needing scaffolding is helpful. You can also email me any photos that you may have of the site or wall that you want the mural on as well as any design concepts you have in mind.
